So, what is an input device?
Basically, an input device is a piece of hardware equipment used to provide data and signals to the computer to do a particular function or task. There are many input devices available. 

Keyboard


What is a keyboard?

As you can see in the picture that is a keyboard. The keyboard is the primary input device used with computers almost every computer has a keyword as an input device. It consists of many buttons called key that can be a letter, numbers, or symbols.
The keyboard is used to provide input to the computer. In normal usage, the keyboard is used as a text entry interface for typing text, numbers, and symbols into a word processor, text editor, or any other program.

Mouse

What is a mouse?

Mouse-Manually Operated Utility for Selecting Equipment. 
Basically, a mouse is a pointing device that is the most commonly used input device today. A computer mouse is handheld hardware used to interact with your computer. A computer mouse is used to control the cursor and to move, select, open, close check details of different items like file, folders, etc.
There are different models of a mouse which have different features and connectivity, but almost all models have two mouse buttons and a scroll wheel.

What is a Scanner?

A scanner is another input device that is used to make a softcopy of a document using their hardcopy.  Basically, a scanner captures images from the source which are then converted into a digital form that can be stored on the disk. These images can be edited before they are used. It works more like a photocopy machine.


Microphone

Simply be called Mic. The basic work of a microphone is to convert sound into electrical signals. A microphone is a type of input device which is used to send audio inputs to the computer. The microphone is used for various applications such as adding sound to a multimedia presentation or for mixing music.

What is a magnetic ink character recognition (MICR)?

or Magnetic Ink Character Reader in short MICR is an input device mainly used by banks for the processing and clearance of cheque and other documents. On a cheque, there are cheque numbers or bank's code printed with a special type of ink that contains some magnetic particle that is machine-readable. MICR is used to read that information written with that ink and provide that as an input.

Optical Mark Recognition (OMR)


What is optical mark recognition (OMR)?

Optical Mark Recognition or Optical Mark Reader in short OMR is a special type of input device which is used to recognize any kind of mark made on a document. They are mostly used for checking the answer sheets of an examination having multiple-choice questions where one out of many alternatives is marked.


Bar Code Reader

What is a barcode reader?

A barcode reader is an input device that is used to read data and information from a barcode. Bar code data is generally used in labeling goods, numbering the books, etc. The usage of barcode readers is increasing nowadays. The barcode reader scans the barcode and converts it into the machine's input.

Joystick

What is joystick?

A joystick is also a pointing device like a mouse. Basically, a joystick is a stick with a spherical ball at the end that can be move in all the directions. A joystick is used to play games.
